IT project and sprint management for IT departments
Syntra gives an IT department sprints with a backlog, story points, a working-day burndown and team velocity, and gives management a portfolio of IT projects with risks and budgets. If development already lives in Jira or GitHub, connectors sync the tasks, so nothing has to move.
Typical IT department pains
- The business asks “when will it be ready?”, and the answer is scattered across the tracker, chats and spreadsheets.
- Internal IT projects (system rollouts, infrastructure, security) get lost among product tasks.
- Sprint and workload reports are pulled out of the tracker by hand.
How it works in Syntra
- SprintsA backlog with filters, story points (1 SP is one working day), one active sprint per department, a length of 1, 2 or 4 weeks.Learn more →
- Burndown and velocityA working-day burndown with a scope line, team velocity, the carry-over share and reports in CSV and PDF.Learn more →
- AI for planningSuggest scope drafts a sprint from the backlog based on velocity; Unload me suggests what to hand over.Learn more →
- Jira and GitHubConnectors sync tasks: a repository is a project, an issue is a task; you choose the direction and frequency.Learn more →
- API, webhooks, MCPA REST API with read or write keys, signed webhooks and an MCP server for AI assistants.Learn more →
- An error screenshot → a taskPaste a screenshot into the chat: the AI reads the error and suggests a task.Learn more →
Example: a tymko.tech IT sprint
The demo company tymko.tech is a fictional restaurant chain used in the Syntra screenshots. Its IT department runs the mobile app and the kitchen display system.
- Planning. The team lead presses Suggest scope: the AI picks tasks from the backlog to match the team’s velocity and lists tasks from high-risk projects separately.
- During the sprint. The sprint board shows one developer with 34 story points against a capacity of 21; Unload me suggests handing a task to a colleague.
- Jira alongside.Part of the team works in Jira: the connector brings over task statuses and deadlines, and the manager sees everything in Syntra.
- Closing. An overdue sprint closes itself at 06:30: unfinished tasks return to the backlog, and the report shows what was planned, added, done and carried over.
Good to know
- Sprints are on the Business and Enterprise plans; connectors, the API, webhooks and MCP on Enterprise.
- Syntra does not replace Git hosting, CI/CD or code review tools.
- There is no Gantt chart and no time tracking; for dependencies across many teams, Jira offers more.
Questions and answers
Can we run Scrum in Syntra?
Yes, the Business and Enterprise plans include sprints: a backlog, story points, a sprint board, a working-day burndown, team velocity and reports. A department has one active sprint at a time; a sprint lasts 1, 2 or 4 weeks.
Do we have to give up Jira?
No, Syntra can work on top of Jira: the connector syncs the title, deadline, status and priority of tasks both ways or one way. Developers stay in Jira, and a manager sees IT projects next to the whole company portfolio. More in the Syntra and Jira comparison.
How are story points counted?
In Syntra 1 story point equals one working day, and halves are allowed (0.5 SP is half a day). Each person’s capacity is counted in working days too, so you can see who is overloaded before the sprint starts.
