When Trello is the better choice

Trello is simpler: if a board with columns and cards is all the team needs, it is quicker to start, and the free plan covers 10 collaborators per workspace.1 It has apps for iOS, Android and the desktop and a library of Power-Ups for integrations.1

Syntra makes sense when boards stop answering the manager’s questions: what is at risk, who is overloaded and how the whole project portfolio is moving.

Switching from Trello

There is no ready-made import from Trello to Syntra. Any board member can export a Trello board to JSON, and to CSV on the Premium plan;28 Syntra does not import those files directly, so the list of projects can be loaded from Excel and the tasks moved by hand or through the Syntra REST API (Enterprise plan).

The practical path is to run new projects in Syntra and close the old Trello boards gradually. Syntra’s templates (Project by PMBOK, Marketing campaign, Software rollout, Location opening, Hiring and onboarding) give you a ready task list instead of an empty board.

Is Syntra a free alternative to Trello?

Partly: the Syntra Free plan costs nothing for 3 users and 5 projects and includes the project kanban and an AI chat, while free Trello covers 10 collaborators per workspace.1 If you need a free board for a larger group, Trello Free is more generous.

How is Syntra different from Trello?

Trello is built around boards and cards, while Syntra is built around projects: tasks, risks, budgets, documents, meeting minutes and a portfolio for the manager. Syntra’s AI assistant is on every plan, while Trello’s AI features start with the Standard plan.4

Can we move our Trello boards to Syntra?

There is no automatic import: a Trello board can be exported to JSON, and to CSV on the Premium plan,28 but Syntra does not read those files directly. The list of projects loads from Excel, and tasks are created by hand, by the AI from a document, or through the API on the Enterprise plan.

Is Trello available in Ukrainian?

Yes, the Trello web version is available in Ukrainian, and the mobile apps follow the system language.9 Syntra is in Ukrainian too — it is its default language, and the AI assistant answers in Ukrainian.
